Judge Sam C. Pointer Endowed Scholarship read more »
We were saddened to lose Judge Sam C. Pointer, Jr. ’57 earlier this year. Judge Pointer was a nationally respected former federal judge who was revered for his high respect of the law, tolerance of others, sharp intellect, and attention to detail. He will also be remembered for his expertise in handling cutting-edge, complex litigation. To honor the memory of Judge Pointer, his former firm of Lightfoot, Franklin & White, LLC and his former law clerks are establishing the Judge Sam C. Pointer Endowed Scholarship Fund. Current plans call for the scholarship to be awarded annually to the incoming editor-in-chief of the Alabama Law Review, to be applied to his or her third year of law school.

On July 11th, UA Law is hosting a Farrah Order of Jurisprudence/Order of the Coif Breakfast as well as our alumni reception during this year’s Alabama State Bar meeting in Destin. Alumni who are planning to attend the UA Law reception and Order of the Coif Members who are planning to attend the breakfast must pre-register through the Alabama Bar Association.

Meador Lecture series, the UA Law faculty identifies an interdisciplinary theme and invites several scholars to illuminate the concept from his or her scholarly perspective. The initiative began in 1994 to honor the University of Alabama School of Law's former Professor and Dean who is now the James Monroe Professor of Law Emeritus at the University of Virginia.

The University of Alabama School of Law proudly announces five new faculty members will join the Law School during the 2008-09 academic year. In the last two years, 11 new faculty members have been added in conjunction with a 90,000 square feet expansion of the Law School’s facilities. This growth – in faculty and facilities – caters to UA Law’s consistent baseline of approximately 515 students.
